SVG: Residents Urged to Prepare for Heavy Rain and Flash Flooding

Be Prepared for Flash Flooding

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Flash Flood Watch for Southwest Virginia, including the city of Martinsville. Residents are urged to be prepared for possible flooding and to take necessary precautions.

The NWS predicts heavy rain throughout the day on Wednesday, with rainfall rates of up to 2 inches per hour possible. This amount of rain could lead to flash flooding, especially in areas that are prone to flooding.

Take Precautions

Residents in the affected areas should take the following precautions:

  • Be aware of the weather forecast and be prepared to take action if a flash flood warning is issued.
  • Move to higher ground if you live in a flood-prone area.
  • Avoid driving through flooded areas.
  • If you must drive, be aware of the depth of the water and do not attempt to cross flooded roadways.
  • Keep important documents and valuables in a safe place in case of flooding.
